I dette prosjektet har studenter ved Kunstskolen i Rogaland intervjuet 28 ulike aktører i kunstlivet i Sandnes og Stavanger. De har dermed gjort en spennende kartlegging av situasjonen for kunstlivet akkurat nå, noe som kan være til stor nytte for både studentene og for alle andre aktører i miljøet.
Videointervjuene ble vist i storsalen på Kinokino i Sandnes. Samtlige intervjuer ble vist i loop på det store lerretet, samtidig som det var mulig å hoppe mellom intervjuene som var fordelt på skjermer rundt i salen. Det var imponerende å se hvordan dette var løst, det kunne ellers blitt ganske utmattende å følge med på en ni timers intervjumaraton. Det var også flott å se hvordan hele den store salen var tatt i bruk, med komfortable lyttekroker rundt i rommet.
Studentene har intervjuet kunstnere, kuratorer, gallerister og andre. Undertegnede var også med for å representere tilskueren/kritikeren. Til alle ble det stilt de samme spørsmålene:
1. Hvem er du/hva jobber du med?
2. Beskriv kunstscenen/systemet i Stavanger/Sandnes
3. Definer din kunstneriske/institusjonelle posisjon innen denne kunstscenen
4. Hva er problemstillingene til kunstscenen/systemet? Og hva tror du trengs, eller skulle du ønske ville skje/gjøres?
Jeg mener at dette var et veldig spennende og nødvendig prosjekt som bør utvikles enda mer og bli gjennomført med en viss frekvens. Med så mye datamateriale skulle jeg ønske at det ble samlet noen tråder, at det ble trukket noen konklusjoner. Jeg håper dette materialet blir tilgjengelig for og brukt av premissleverandørene for kunstlivet i regionen.

The students at the Rogaland Art Academy interviewed 28 persons in the art world of Stavanger and Sandnes, asking these questions:
1. Who are you/what is your work?
2. Describe the art world/system in Stavanger/Sandnes
3. Define your artist/institutional position within this environment
4. What are the challenges of the art world/system? What is in your opinion needed, what do you wish would happen/be done?
This is my (revised and translated) response:
1: I am responsible for the virtualwallworld art blog
2: In my opinion the art world of Stavanger/Sandnes is impressively diverse, large and resourceful, considering the limited size of the twin towns (approx. 200 000 inhabitants). I am amazed of how many well run, serious institutions here are, how many enthusiasts here are, how interesting new artists emerge, and how highly valued art is here.
3: I am the viewer, the visitor, one who consumes art. At the same time, with my blog I am documenting, reviewing and recommending the art exhibitions and happenings in the area.
4: I see the challenges of the local art world in two topics: Resources and information.
I sense how difficult it must be being an emerging artist with no money and no contacts to establish as an artist. I sense how the institutions are crying for some more income. I also wonder how it is possible for an artist to be creative while at the same time worrying about how to make a living, publish her work and get contacts. I support further financial support of the established art institutions. I hope the enthusiasts will be supported and thus given credit for their work. I would also be happy to see more will to give a chance to the more rioting, experimental or just new art and artists. Why not have a fund for unestablished artists, saying: "Here are some money, make some great art!" In many cases this will probably turn out dull or bad, but think about the possibility of some really great art created as a result of this!
I deeply miss more information and publication about the art in the region. First of all I miss a coordinated portal or information service about what is happening, where and when. I also miss information from the galleries and festivals before something is happening, during, and documentation afterwards. Some are improving their information service, some do not even put a minimum of information on their web pages. Then I also miss more awareness in the media about art exhibitions and happenings. There is too much great art that get left unnoticed in the local and national media. This is one of my reasons for running this blog.
