Gallery Cafe Sting, Stavanger
I was very pleased to discover my favourite Stavanger streetart duo, Apchi Team, exhibiting their canvas/plywood paintings at Cafe Sting. Their unique style of strict geometrical shapes in a limited color scheme fits well both on a gallery wall and in the public. Some of their works are for you to discover. I know there is a decorated lighthouse somewhere...
Presentations, impressions, critics and documentation of street art, gallery art and public art in Stavanger and other places.

Sandra Chevrier: Les Cages / Beneath the Skin
Les Cages / Beneath the Skin
Sandra Chevrier
4.-27.9.14
Skur 2, Stavanger
Painted female portraits with cartoon heroes
Somehow this grand exhibition by Reed Projects Gallery at Skur 2 has not been posted on this blog. I blame that on all the great fuss during Nuart at the same time. Anyway, this exhibition again showed the beautiful works of Sandra Chevrier, featuring portraits of vulnerable women covered with cartoon heroes. But this time the women seem slightly stronger, some are in full figure, and there are even some daring to show their faces almost without the hero masks.
Large crowds gathered at the opening, and there was a line from outside of the building to buy prints.

Feeling Queezy?!
Feeling Queezy?!
2.8.-7.9.14
EKKM, Tallinn
Installations, sculptures, video
Kadi Estland: Naked & Afraid
Adam Christensen: Hot & Wired
-video footage and sound from a nightclub
Dénes Farkas: Does Someone Remember Me?
- square glass pieces put together, screens with photos, poetry
Ariel Schlesinger: Bubble Machine
- the machine creates soap bubbles, that fall down on a grid and explode in flames
Jannicke Låker: Running Woman
- a video where a woman is continously running away from someone or something
Neeme Külm: Fountain
-mirror spheres with videos inside
Jaanus Samma: Vendetta
- a cartoon drawing and a medal
Danielle Kaganov: Untitled
- a block of alarm clocks all constantly ticking, like a bomb ready to go off
Anu Vahtra: 17,9 degrees
- going down and turning around messes up your senses, as what on this photo seems like a horisontal corridor is actually a quite steep tunnel that was used for transporting stuff to the power plant in the next building. Up and down and normality get messed up

An overview on art from Tartu spanning from 1860 to 2014
It is an immense task: To give an overview of important artists during the timespan of 154 years! Here are impressionism, contemporary art, new media and streetart. I am thrilled about the idea of putting old masters like Elmar Kits together with fresh streetartists like Kairo and MinajaLydia. There is so much to discover, and I continously think "is also this artist from Tartu?" This is an exhibition that hammers in the image of Tartu as a town of creativity and fun. If this is not heavily sponsored by Tartu municipality, it must be a mistake. I want to move to Tartu now.
