Paintings/collages of women and superheros
I am not sure what is most immediate in the works by Sandra Chevrier, the staring eyes, the beautiful portraits or the mass of superheros. What I am sure of is that the overall impression is stunning. There is both a strongness and a fragility in her portraits. The women are partly hidden behind the superhero cover, but their personality shine through, and in fact the superheros become just a decorative pattern. This is most apparent in the double portraits, the same girl with closed and open eyes. With closed eyes the superheros get the attention, but you cannot avoid the gaze of the opened eyes.
